“Mr. Armstrong brings a wealth of experience and knowledge as an instructor. His passion for the profession and the value he believes it adds to individuals, organizations, and society comes through loud and clear. It makes for an enjoyable and meaningful five days of learning.”
– Paul Rickershauser Vice President Human Resources

“I felt like the entire process with ICM was professional and smooth. Starting with the registration process and the helpful and timely answers to my questions, all of the way to the logistics and choice of location of the training course, I was quite pleased. The best part of the training however was the instructor, David Armstrong. David’s professional background, extensive mediation background, and generally likeable demeanor enabled a diverse group of students to really gain value out of the class. Kudos to ICM and David Armstrong for a well executed training course!”

– Charles L. Phillips

“Charles and Bob were excellent at hitting the right points and giving examples and advice from their personal experiences. The exercises were appropriate for the audience, which was diverse in terms of background and experience. Also, our last guest speaker, Kabir, was inspirational to say the least. His experience brought the whole concept of mediation as a practical and necessary form of dispute resolution to another level. We were all transformed by the experience.”

– Janet Butler, Regional HR Manager
  CVS Pharmacy

“I found the two instructors very professional and very knowledgable of the subject matter. The content was well organized. It was impossible not to learn something from this training. It was superb for any HR professional that must deal with employee issues. ”
–Fred Schunmen, HR Director
Clover Park Technical College

“As an owner of a small company that wears the hats of “HR” person as well as deal-maker for clients, I thoroughly enjoyed the course and gained a wealth of valuable information which I was able to put to very good use shortly after the close of the class by making a very satisfying deal for my clients. All parties came away from the table happy with the results. I’m certain that the course was a big help in the final result. Thanks for the great information and insight!!”

“This program got down to the nuts and bolts of mediation and at the same time tried to answer any questions that the participants had. The fact that the presenters were actual mediators and attornies really helped; this was not just theory, but theory and practicality at the same time.”
– Nancy L. Dyer

“The five day duration permitted deep committment and concentration on both the academic subject and the mind-set”

– Anna Niemann,
  Goodman & Associates

“As an attorney with 37 years experience in complex, commercial litigation and have never attended a program that helped me more in learning how to listen, the value of doing so and how resolution of conflicts depends on an understanding of interpersonal relationships, emotions and what the parties, as opposed to the lawyers, really need and want. It will assist me immeasurable in representing clients in mediation and in my daily life.”
– Doug Zimmerman, Esq.
  Jennings Strouss Salmon

“The course was very WELL structured, with the perfect amount of structure AND flexibility. Both were really necessary to keep things moving without feeling trapped. The most valuable aspect of the program was the demeanor and perspective of the instructors, Charles Parselle and Bob Tessier. They practice what they teach both literally and figuratively. It was fantastic to see such smarts, clarity and empathy in action all at the same time.”
– Aubrey Siegel

“The inclusiveness of the training to the point that anyone would say they would be competent to handle a mediation. The couse and instructors were outstanding. Don’t change a thing but add additional training courses.”

“Anyone who completes this course and has participated in mediations by mediators who have no formal training, will come to realize that most of them don’t know what they are doing. An example is the JAMS panel of retired judges who don’t have a clue about the “process” of mediation. You will come away with a sense of satisfaction knowing that you may bumble about in the first couple of real mediations, but even with that “bumbling,” you’ll be better than most of the untrained mediators.”

“Our community is abuzz with excitement about Diana Mercer when she comes and conducts training for new and/or experienced mediators.  As a mediator, Diana leads the parties in a positive, collaborative, and peaceful conversation designed to promote both recognition of common interests and compromise for differing interests.  The last time Diana came to train, my mediation students continued through the semester to reflect on and apply the lessons she taught and the mediation techniques that she modeled for the students.  Diana is a true gem as a trainer, because she is able to combine her skills as a highly experienced and successful practitioner, with her skills as a thoughtful, insightful, and effective teacher.  She has my strongest endorsement.”

“In May, 2005, I attended a two-day training at the University of Idaho School of Law Northwest Institute for Dispute Resolution on Advanced Family Law Mediation, taught by Diana Mercer, J.D., and Tara Fass, LMFT. I rated the overall quality of the program, the written materials and the presentation as “excellent.” In my experience with ADR trainings, it is rare to find an “advanced” training that actually advances the skills of the practitioners attending. It is also rare to attend a two-day training that is actually engaging to practicing professionals for two full days. Diana and Tara exhibited surpassing skill at engaging and challenging participants through a combination of role play and experience-informed theoretical instruction. Their own interaction was seamless, thoroughly professional, and lively. I would highly recommend them as presenters and any program they would offer to present.”

“Diana Mercer is a terrific speaker, trainer, and moderator.  She spoke at my Women’s Festival events (www.womensfestivals.org) in Santa Barbara, CA and Sedona, AZ in spring 2008 and participants loved her down-to-earth, easygoing style and her honesty in approaching both her prepared remarks and ad hoc responses to questions from the workshop attendees.  Her topic, “Creating Peace - Getting Ahead In Your Career and on The Homefront by Striking the Balance”, with co-presenter Neeti Dewan, the Executive Yogi, was a conference favorite. Her straightforward approach to interest-based negotiations works both at home as well as in more formal settings, and I love her no-nonsense approach and willingness to share her expertise in practical mediation and negotiation tips that work.  Diana illustrates her points with real stories which make them come alive and she’s always full of interesting and pragmatic advice.”

“Diana Mercer and Tara Fass are experts in their field as teachers and trainers in their approach to family law mediation which addresses the underlying hidden messages couples unconsciously convey.  At our mediation training for psychotherapists at the New Center for Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles in 2005 and 2006, Diana and Tara taught aspiring mediators how to manage issues of betrayal, entitlement, control/domination, rivalry, shame and blame.  Fass and Mercer are experts at helping beginning mediators understand how victimization can work to dupe the mediator and potentially judges and lawyers in submitting to requests by subversion and coercion.  The victim is just as aggressive as the perpetrator but in reverse.  Diana and Tara have developed an approach to family law mediation that is not only very effective for high-functioning divorcing couples, but  can equip mediators with information and skills to deal with the underlying covert issues and hidden dynamics that most mediators are not aware of.  As teachers and trainers they are unparalleled. ”

“Diana Mercer brought practical experience, warmth and intelligence that to a recent (May 14, 2008) national teleconference for the New York State Dispute Resolution Association.  Diana’s business success in ADR opened the eyes and sparked new ideas.  I left with pages of notes that I’ve already begun to implement.  She complemented the program with useful handouts and expertly managed questions and answers.”
–Emily Menn, Director of Education & Professional Development
New York State Dispute Resolution Association

“Diana Mercer, Esq., and Tara Fass, LMFT facilitated a training for my business group, ProVisors.  Their topic was resolving conflicts at work, and they were so well received that I recommended them to all of the groups in our network.  Their sense of humor and presentation style charmed even the most skeptical participants.  As a management consultant, I know how conflict at work and at home can negatively influence the bottom line, so I appreciated their easy-to-implement suggestions which were elegant in their simplicity yet quite effective.  I’ll use the what I learned in their seminar in my own business and in my work with clients.”
