On August 25th, FINRA announced that effective September 22, 2008, it will begin deducting all delinquent arbitration and mediation fees owed by member firms from their Central Registration Depository accounts. Such fees are considered delinquent if they are not paid within 60 days after the date of an invoice. FINRA Regulatory Notice 08-45.

Teacher contract talks in the Troy School District will have the help of a mediator, starting probably next week.
“The next logical step is to request the assistance of a mediator,” said community relations Director Tim McAvoy, speaking of the negotiations.
The contract between the district and the more than 12,000-member Troy Education Association expired Aug. 14 and has been extended until Friday, Oct. 3.

Hawaiian Airlines pilots are seeking mediation over their contract negotiations with the company.
The pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, said in a statement Tuesday that 18 months of negotiations with the airline have not brought them closer to a contract, so the pilots filed to seek mediation with the National Mediation Board.
ALPA said in a statement that negotiations reached a standstill since June.
The Hawaii pilots’ union chairman Capt. Eric Sampson said the airline is refusing to grant reasonable raises despite reporting “significant” profits.
In response, Hawaiian Airlines on Wednesday disputed the characterization of its finances, saying that the $54 million in profit it reported in the second quarter came from its settlement of a lawsuit against Mesa Air Group.
Without the settlement, the company would have barely broken even because fuel costs are up 81 percent over a year ago.
Hawaiian (Nasdaq: HA) said it has generated operating losses through the first six months of 2008 and that it will pay well over $100 million more for fuel this year compared to last year.
Hawaiian also said it would like to increase the pay of its employees to the extent that the company is able to without deepening its “competitive disadvantage.”
