Bentley Student-Run Consumer Action Line Receives $30,000 from Mass. Attorney General’s Office

The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, Community Information and Education Division, has awarded Bentley a 16th consecutive grant in the amount of $30,000 for the operation of the Bentley Consumer Action Line (BCAL), a service-learning program where students mediate consumer complaints against local businesses. The grant will allow Bentley students to mediate consumer complaints against businesses located in Lincoln, Lexington, Waltham, Wayland, Weston, Winchester and Stoneham.

Conflict resolution day to be held Oct. 16

he Washington County Community Mediation Center (WCCMC) will celebrate International Conflict Resolution Day with free events for the public on Thursday, Oct. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at North Hagerstown High School.

Speakers are Sen. Donald Munson, Chief Judge Ben Clyburn of the Maryland District Court, Hagerstown Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II, Steve Burnett, supervisor of School Counseling Services, Washington County Sheriff Douglas Mullendore and Hagerstown Police Department Chief Arthur Smith.

Event festivities include introduction of board and staff; a brief retrospective of WCCMC’s history; awards ceremony for youth “Vision of Peace” art and essay contest winners; as well as viewing a mock mediation session.

Light refreshments will be served.

WCCMC provides free mediation to all residents of Washington County for all types of disputes, including family, neighborhood, business, and inter-personal conflicts. Mediation is a confidential process that enables participants to freely discuss disagreements and work together to develop creative and mutually agreeable, long-lasting solutions to their conflicts. The mediators are professionally trained volunteers from the community.



Wecht, prosecutors in mediation talks
